Access to disease free potato germplasm is a key prerequisite for its seed production system and breeding programs. To eradicate multiple infection of viruses PVA + PVY and PVS + PVA, stem segments of different potato varieties exposed to 15, 25 and 35 mili amper electric currents for 10 and 20 minute. Responses of potato genotypes to electrotherapy were significantly different. Regeneration rate was also different in various genotypes. In electrotherapy with 35 mA, 70% of plantlets regenerated from cultivar Lady Roseta were virus free. In the multiple infections of PVA +PVS electrotherapy did not eradicate PVS. Effects of electrotherapy on reducing the concentration of PVS was much less than its effects on lowering the concentration of PVA in the plant. Therefore the results of this study suggested that electrotherapy can be effectively used for elimination of PVA and PVY from some potato cultivars.
